Michael Coffey received his B.A. in English at the University of Notre Dame and his M.A. in Anglo-Irish Literature from Leeds University. Shortly after graduation he began a career in publishing, which ranged from working with small presses to being the editor of Small Press magazine and later Publishers Weekly. His first book of poems appeared in 1996, and since then he has published two more volumes of poems, a collection of short stories, and several nonfiction works. His 2018 work of literary fiction, Samuel Beckett Is Closed, was the result of an intense scholarly engagement with Beckett’s oeuvre. Coffey is Emeritus Reader in Greek and Latin at University College, London.
