Our 25th Anniversary Campaign: Small Press, 25 Years!
Jump to Campaign Support Levels
For 25 years, Litmus has championed writing that expands the boundaries of literature. This anniversary year marks a rare opportunity to secure the long-term future of this work.
The initial phase of our 25th Anniversary Campaign has established a reserve fund that secures meaningful stability. The next phase of our year-long campaign will address immediate needs. We have big ambitions for what a small press can make possible. To imagine a future that everyone can inhabit, we need big support.
Together, these phases position Litmus for long-term strength and continuity, creating the conditions to continue taking artistic risks, steward our archives and acquired press legacies with care, and develop new resources for the appreciation of complex works.
Transformative Capacity $150K underway!
Transformative Capacity expands Litmus’ ability to fully realize its mission. This phase supports strategic new hires, essential infrastructure and equipment upgrades, and deeper editorial engagement with each book – from development through circulation – while extending the reach and consistency of our publishing program.
Enduring Stability $250K secured!
This funding establishes a reserve that strengthens Litmus’ foundation. $250,000 is based on Litmus’ annual operating budget, including basic staffing, publishing and programming costs.
The reserve functions as a cash flow safeguard and contingency fund, ensuring our publishing schedule stays on track, supporting continuity for our small team, and stabilizing operations amid inevitable fluctuations in the cultural landscape.
Please join us in celebrating 25 years and in sustaining this work for the next 25.
We are deeply grateful to leadership gifts from The Leslie Scalapino – O Books Fund, Simone Fattal, Tamaas, Margaret M. Winslow, Joseph D. Messler, Tim Messler & Tara Marchionna, the Gray Farm Giving Fund, the Terry Gamble & Peter Boyer Fund, John Winslow & Emily Bailey, as well as anonymous contributions to establish this reserve.
Throughout our anniversary year, we will host a series of intimate gatherings in support of the campaign, including 25th Anniversary Celebrations at Et al. in San Francisco on September 10th and at The Poetry Project on October 14, 2026. Stay Tuned!
Supporters are recognized throughout the anniversary year, with opportunities to engage with Litmus’s program and community. Recognition is optional and can be tailored upon request.
