24-Hour International Reading, Organizing, and Direct Aid

International Reading for Freedom of Expression & Solidarity with Palestine

On November 25th, we gather writers from around the world for a 24-hour reading in support of Palestinian writers, Palestinian voices in diaspora, and their allies. We gather in the spirit of fundamental respect for life and liberation. As individual poets, artists & writers, and representatives of independent arts organizations, we call for an end to all ongoing genocidal aggression. We condemn the collective punishment of Palestinians, we condemn actions that perpetuate cycles of violence, and we call for a global commitment to protect freedom of expression and critical dissent.

We are deeply engaged in conversations about what tanglible actions we can take as artists, poets, translators, and small organizations to address injustice on a structural level. We resolutely reject all forms of racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, anti-Blackness, queer and transphobia, misogyny, and the creation of false oppositions in service of a disastrous status quo. This is active, ongoing work—personal, organizational, and social—and we will never be done with it.

For now, we are mobilizing around calls for direct aid to address the humanitarian crisis caused by the relentless bombings in Gaza. Friends in Palestine are asking for contributions to the following organizations:

Donations

Medical Aid for Palestine

United Nations Relief and Works Agency

Palestinian Feminist Collective

Middle East Children’s Alliance

Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

Islamic Relief Canada

Humanitarian Coalition Canada

Direct Aid to Gaza

Follow and DM @malfoufeh (Instagram) for instructions to donate through them to trusted organizations distributing funds on the ground, including Center for Women’s Legal Research, Counseling and Protection, a feminist organization based in Gaza.
